There’s nothing quite like a beach getaway to lift your spirits. But, if you’re on a budget, the price tag of a summer holiday can be enough to bring them crashing back down to earth again.

To help travellers find the best deals, Post Office UK has crunched the numbers and released its annual Holiday Costs Barometer for 2019, detailing the cheapest places to go for a beach holiday this year.

The data compared the average cost of nine holiday essentials, including a range of drinks, snacks and an evening meal for two, across 20 popular beach holiday resorts in Europe.

Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach was found to be the cheapest destination for UK travellers, with the total bill for nine items coming in at £38.86 (AU$71). Portugal’s Algarve (£57.48) was the next cheapest, followed by Marmaris in Turkey (£59.13). Meanwhile, Torremolinos (£65.59) and Benidorm (£78.05) in Spain rounded out the top five.

Meanwhile, Limassol in Cyprus saw the biggest price fall in prices – the cost of these nine travel staples are 20.2 per cent less this year (£93.58), moving it to ninth place from last year’s 16th placing.
