What's that old saying, that you wait ages for a bus, and then three come at once?
The whale-watching equivalent of this happened in Canada last month, with an extraordinary video that captured the moment just coming to light.
When Ocean Explorations Zodiac Whale Cruises hit the waters off the coast of Nova Scotia on August 17, tour director and biologist Tom Goodwin couldn't have known the treat that lay ahead for him and his boatful of passengers.
But the moment he saw three magnificent humpback whales 'take off' after surfacing very close to his boat after a long dive, he knew what was coming next:
"Get ready, it's going to be a triple breach, get ready, it's going to be a triple breach!" he called out to the clearly excited whale-watchers.
And, as seen in this video captured by passenger Edmond Giroux, his predictions were spot on:
"How did you know it was going to be a triple breach?????? Incredible!!!" wrote an enchanted viewer on the company's Facebook page.
"I have done this before!!" wrote Tom: "LOL ... 35+ years in fact!"
Other people expressed their appreciation for the fantastic mammals – and for their skills in the water:
"Such incredible, amazing, magnificent and beautiful creatures. Love this. Thank you for sharing."
"A new Olympic synchronized swim team!"
