Bali may be a holiday hotspot for Aussies looking for a beach getaway, but according to new research there’s a new destination that travellers are flocking to.
According to research New Caledonia is fast becoming a favourite for Australians looking for a tropical escape.
The results were reported by the Turner Report, which showed bookings to the island country had increased by 42 per cent during 2016.
"Australians are on the move more than ever before and we firmly believe this is the Golden Age of Travel," said Flight Centre CEO Graham Turner, after whom the survey is named.
"Flights are becoming more affordable and in 2017 we have advertised some of the cheapest fares we've ever seen."

If you thought you'd have to pay through the nose to visit such a beautiful part of the world, you’re wrong. New Caledonia was voted one of the top 10 most affordable countries for Australian travellers to visit, according to Cheapflights.
It might be located in the South Pacific, but New Caledonia is technically a French archipelago, so there is a romantic mix of Parisian charm on the island.
Exciting for bird lovers, there are 22 species of bird that are endemic to the islands.
