Everyone has their own little ‘must have’ when it comes to flying, whether it’s a pair of comfy trousers or a wrap to fight the chilly plane air-conditioning.
But what’s everyone else buying to make their flights more comfortable? Big American newspaper USA Today has set out its 20 highest-rated travel products for 2019, with reviews by its staff that explain why these products are so good.
According to USA Today’s frequent flyers, the best carry-on suitcase is a Samsonite Flexis 21-inch Spinner, because it fits in almost all overhead compartments and can still expand to fit in all the bits you pick up on your travels.
High-performance earphones are another must, to block out the crying babies and loud-talkers sitting around you, as is a USB battery pack so you don’t have to worry about looking for a charging point, or the right converter, for your mobile phone once you arrive at your destination. A digital luggage scale that you can use to ensure you don’t incur extra baggage fees is another little gadget USA Today advises you to pack.
The list also includes a nifty anti-theft cross-body bag, a Tile Mate that helps you find your hotel keys, mobile phone and other essentials via an app on your phone, and a strange-but-snuggly airplane pillow that promises to help you fall asleep no matter how squeezy your plane seat.
Of course, you may have another clever item that you can’t do without when travelling. Plenty of people swear by tea bags from home, while an eye mask and ear plugs are common essentials for those who find it hard to sleep when travelling.
