About this deal

Sighting the Northern Lights is always completely weather dependent but on this journey you are spending more than three nights above the Arctic Circle which means your chances are very good. You are also introduced to the fascinating Sami people of northern Norway whose traditions include reindeer herding and fishing. Exhilarating sleigh rides through magical snow-covered terrain are a highlight as well as the little known Lofoten Islands which are a rare wilderness outpost of majestic landscapes, seabird colonies and surf-swept beaches.

Lunch is included before returning to the hotel. This evening is another adventure out into the snowy wilderness on a magical husky sleigh ride. Meet the dogs and their keepers before an exhilarating ride through the woods and up onto the plain in the hope of seeing the Northern Lights. This morning you depart Tromsø for the long drive southwest to the Lofoten Islands (approx. 6 hours). On the way a special visit to the Troms Military Museum is arranged, with lunch, where army personnel share information about local military history. Many fascinating aspects of World War II involving soldiers from Inner Troms, Resistance fighters and Cold War manoeuvres are covered. After lunch the journey to the rare wilderness outpost of the Lofoten Islands continues. Arrive at your hotel overlooking Svolvær harbour later in the day with dinner tonight in the hotel (B,L,D). Anker Brygge (Fisherman’s Cabin)

Here you will visit the Kaviar Factory where an impressive collection of Norwegian and international contemporary art is exhibited. After a guided tour there is time to explore on your own with drinks in the private apartment upstairs hosted by a museum curator. Afterwards continue on foot through the city for an historical tour before dinner at the Fish Oil Museum which has been completely renovated by some local enthusiasts and now operates as a museum restaurant combination.
