Day 1: Barcelona, Spain - Tour Begins
Welcome to Barcelona, a major global city abounding with culture, architectural gems, and a world-class culinary scene. Sip locally-crafted cocktails amidst views of one of the Mediterranean’s liveliest ports during a welcome reception at one of Barcelona’s historic buildings.
Day 2: Barcelona
Explore the basilica of the famous La Sagrada Família Church and Towers* for impeccable views of Barcelona from 213 feet up. Embark next on a guided tour of the city, where the Columbus Monument, the Parc de Montjuïc, and the exteriors of two of Gaudi’s classic constructions – the Casa Mila and the Batlló House – are striking. Join an optional expedition to Montserrat this afternoon for a guided tour of the monastery. Or, stay behind and see more of Barcelona on your own. Day 3: Barcelona - Pamplona
This morning, set out to the Basque region and Pamplona – the famed location of the running of the bulls. Join a local expert in a private conversation about the sport’s storied tradition, and its historical ties to Pamplona. Learn some inside information about the colourful San Fermin festival as well. Your evening is at leisure. Consider exploring the historic capital’s lively neighbourhoods, and culinary delights. Today breakfast will be included.
Day 4: Pamplona - San Sebastián
The sophisticated coastal city of San Sebastián welcomes you to indulge in its myriad charms. When you arrive, it’s your choice! Join a guided tour of the city’s fascinating old town; onboard a funicular, beautiful views of La Concha Bay surround you on your ascension to the apex of Mount Igueldo -OR- set out for a guided walk through the farms, vineyards, and villages along the Coastal Camino. Spend a little time mingling with the locals before making your return to San Sebastián onboard a local train. Today breakfast will be included.
Day 5: San Sebastián
Be swept away by the allure of San Sebastián’s golden beaches and lush hillsides and indulge in its world-class culinary scene with a full day at leisure. You may wish to leave San Sebastián for an optional excursion to Bilbao, where you’ll visit the Guggenheim Museum and stroll Costa Verde’s quirky riverfront landscapes. Day 6: San Sebastián - Santander - Burgos
Today, board your coach for the port city of Santander where you will be free to explore independently. You may consider taking a relaxing stroll in the gardens of the Palacio de la Magdalena, or explore the historic district of El Sardinero. An optional experience to see the city differently from a kayak or paddleboard is also offered.** Later, gather together as we make our way to historic Burgos. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.
Day 7: Burgos
Marvel at the religious, Renaissance, and Gothic architecture while on a walking tour of medieval Burgos. In this regal, living picture book, the 15th and 16th centuries come to life, captivating you as you pass white limestone buildings and a collection of glimmering streetscapes. End at Burgos Cathedral, the UNESCO-protected relic of Spain’s religious architecture. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon at leisure. Today breakfast will be included.
Day 8: Burgos - Madrid
Journey to Madrid, the epicenter of art, culture and politics. This is Spain’s magnificent capital and home to the Spanish Monarch. It is a city whose treasures are endless, with streets bursting with action. Shop as the Spaniards would on a visit inside one of Madrid’s bustling marketplaces and soak in the dynamic energy of the city. This afternoon, consider an optional walking tour in the city of Segovia, where its storybook castle – Alcázar of Segovia – is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
